Hello, I’m Josie an illustrator living in a small village in the Swiss Alps. I spend my days drawing, creating and experimenting with mediums but mostly digital painting and dreaming up worlds where women still wear dresses, hats and ribbons. Also, a big part of my day is playing and cuddling with my son.
My work is featured in children’s books, exhibitions, editorial publications, stationery, book covers, visual identities, character design, comic strips and more. My debut book for children was published in May 2023.
Little bit about my background:
Born and raised in Beirut, the busy capital of Lebanon, tall buildings and chaotic streets bursting with loud human life released the artist within me from a very young age. As I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil, my creations always revolved around stories, characters and dialogues.
After receiving my BA in graphic design in 2010, I’ve made work for magazines, event organisers, agriculture companies, advertising agencies and conferences. Up until my travel journey in India and other countries began, and lasted for seven years, followed by moving to settle and live in the mountains in Switzerland. Nature and human cultures have inspired me enormously to shift my career to what I love most, Illustration.
I’m also inspired by travel, folk art, philosophical tales with humanist values, poetry and stories that rhyme, black/dark humour, period fashion (I could go on)
My learning journey continues as I take courses whenever the occasion allows, like a miniature art course in India, a digital art course in Italy, a sketchbook drawing course online and so on… Currently, I’m learning all about video editing and animation on Adobe Premiere and Procreate Dreams which is a huge challenge for my patience (ahah)
