Hello, I’m Josie an illustrator living in a small village in the Swiss Alps.
My days are a dance of drawing, creating, and weaving dreams through a myriad of mediums, with a particular fondness for digital painting. In my imagination, women still twirl in dresses, adorned with hats and ribbons, in worlds where nostalgia meets whimsy. Also, a big part of my day is playing and cuddling with my son.
My art finds its home in children’s books, exhibitions, editorial spreads, stationery, book covers, visual identities, character design, comic strips, and beyond. In May 2023, I welcomed the world to my debut children’s book, a milestone in my creative journey.
A glimpse into my past: I was born and raised in Beirut, the vibrant heart of Lebanon, where towering buildings and bustling streets teemed with life, sparking the artist within me from a very young age. With a pencil in hand as soon as I could hold one, my creations were always stories waiting to be told, characters yearning to come alive, and dialogues whispering in the margins.
After earning my BA in graphic design in 2010, I embarked on a diverse journey, crafting work for magazines, event organisers, agriculture companies, advertising agencies, conferences and so on. This path led me across the globe, from the soulful streets of India to distant lands, a journey that spanned seven years and culminated in finding my haven among the Swiss mountains. It was nature, along with the tapestry of human cultures, that gently nudged me towards my true passion—Illustration.
My inspirations are as varied as the landscapes I've wandered: travel, folk art, philosophical tales laced with humanist values, poetry that sings, stories that rhyme, dark humour that bites, and fashion from bygone eras (the list could go on).
My learning is a never-ending journey, one that has taken me to a miniature art course in India, a digital art workshop in Italy, and countless online sketchbook classes. At present, I’m immersing myself in the worlds of video editing and animation, mastering Adobe Premiere and Procreate Dreams—a challenge for my patience, to be sure, but one that I embrace with a smile (ahah)
